To enhance visits to Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, the Open Museum has created boxes of replica objects and information that can be borrowed and used with your school/group. These can be used either before or after a visit to reinforce the learning experience.

The package is designed so that it can be used to look at ‘Houses and Homes’, ‘Rich and Poor’, ‘Introduction to Tudor Life’ or ‘Medieval Life’.

The boxes include objects and information about the Battle and everyday life in the late Medieval and early Tudor periods. The information is divided into sections to help you find the information most useful for your activities. In addition, there are notes about the objects provided on separate cards.

The objects comprise a mixture of items connected to war such as a steel gauntlet, armoured hat and chain mail collar, as well as everyday domestic items such as spoons, shoes, hats, leather purses and drinking bottles. Included in the information is a story about the fictional Shere family, designed to introduce students to the Battle of Bosworth and how it affected ordinary villagers.

'This resource is from the Resource Box loan collection, comprising over 2000 boxes of museum objects, replicas and natural history specimens available for loan. Resource Box is part of Leicestershire's Open Museum which provides museum art, objects and displays for use in schools and community venues throughout Leicestershire and Leicester'.

The use of Resource Boxes is free to schools/groups in Leicestershire, Leicester and Warwickshire. They can be booked and collected from the Sherrier Centre, Lutterworth, or can be delivered and collected for a modest fee.

For more information about the Battle of Bosworth Resource Boxes please telephone 01455 552 834 and the Resource Box Officer will be pleased to answer enquiries and arrange loans.
