New gallery for 2010...

A newly updated gallery showcasing archaeological finds from the battlefield will be officially opened by Dame Jenny Abramsky, Chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund, on Thursday 15th April 2010. The gallery will tell the amazing story of how archaeologists found the true location of the Battle of Bosworth Field, 525 years after the battle took place.

The new gallery, part of the multi award-winning Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre run by Leicestershire County Council, will showcase exciting archaeological objects found at the 15th century battlefield site.

The gallery will reveal the methods used to locate the battlefield, what the evidence tells us about where and how the battle was fought, and the implications of this for future study of medieval warfare.

The new interactive gallery will offer the public the chance to see lead roundshot fired from artillery and bullets fired from early hand guns. Bosworths collection boasts more lead roundshot than from all the other battlefields of the 15th and 16th centuries put together.

Glenn Foard, Project Officer of the Battlefields Trust said: "Bosworth has shown the potential of archaeology to contribute to our understanding of the Origins of Firepower - a story of international significance which must now be explored on battlefields across Europe.
